Meghan Markle & Prince Harry – Does Anyone Really Care Anymore?

https://www.ccn.com/meghan-markle-and-prince-harry-does-anyone-care/

  • The Sussexes saw their popularity take a nosedive recently, but they were always thought to be relevant. Love them or hate them; they have your interest.
  • Or do they? It seems that fewer and fewer people are caring about them.
  • Where does that leave Prince Harry and Meghan Markle? At the mercy of Netflix, where they’ll be likely be given some pretty uncomfortable decisions to make.

Despite chatter about privacy and talk of nightmares about flashing camera bulbs, we all know that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry walked away from their royal duties for two things:

Money and fame.

Due to the couple’s popularity as royals, they believed they could break away and see their popularity translate into dollars, allowing them to live a life of luxury in California.

While they’re certainly never going to be caught short for a few bucks, it hasn’t worked out quite as they’d hoped. So far, anyway.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have seen their popularity dip

It’s been well documented that since leaving their royal life behind, both Meghan and Harry have seen their popularity take a considerable dip.

In October, a YouGov poll documented the Sussexes fall from grace, with Prince Harry suffering a 19 point drop, while Meghan Markle saw an astounding 18 point drop in the same timeframe.

Of course, we’ve seen fans of both Meghan and Harry claim that the drop in popularity is associated with factors such as racism, xenophobia, and misogyny (although quite how any of those elements plays into Prince Harry’s popularity dipping is another matter) and that while they may be unpopular, they’re still relevant, which is key to the success of their brand.

After all, it doesn’t matter if you love them or hate them. So long as you’re paying attention, right?

Well, it seems the tide is also turning on that front.

Is the mainstream celebrity world losing interest in Harry and Meghan?

While the Sussexes may have been losing the popularity battle with the British public, they were still considered relevant by most.

But is this still the case?

Speaking to the Royally Obsessed podcast, royal commentator Ingrid Seward, who is the Editor in Chief of Majesty magazine, commented:

We stopped having Harry and Meghan on the cover a while ago. It just wasn’t selling. The magazine wasn’t selling when they were on the cover. “HELLO! magazine actually told me the same thing. Obviously, there are some beautiful pictures of them.

Before we see Sussex Squad zealots lose their minds and start claiming that these royal magazines and news outlets are dropping the Hollywood Royals from their covers out of dislike for Meghan Markle, it’s worth noting that Ingrid absolutely wants to cover Meghan and Harry.

She continued:

I would like to have them on the cover, but it just doesn’t seem to work. I find that weird and interesting.

A theory I have, which has been hammered by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s fans, is that the couple became so popular because they were royals.

The mistake they’ve made is in believing their own hype. They assumed that the high levels of interest and popularity were based entirely on them as people, which sadly seems not to be the case.

So what next for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry?

The future is all kinds of uncertain for the couple, with even the Netflix deal not guaranteed to deliver the hundreds of millions of dollars many fans believe.

I’m no Netflix expert, but I don’t think it works that way. The streaming giant isn’t just handing Prince Harry and Meghan Markle a check for hundreds of millions of dollars regardless of the success of the content they provide.

I believe that they could potentially earn that kind of money if the Netflix content they deliver is a roaring success.

But what’re the chances that it will be? Talk of educational and inspirational programming sounds great, but having heard what Netflix is expecting from them, I don’t think that kind of content will get the job done.

I believe Netflix signed this deal because they want access to Prince Harry and the royal angle he can lend to projects.

Don’t be surprised if we see him in front of the camera on a Princess Diana documentary, which will anger his brother and father, no doubt.

And that trashy reality type show that was beneath them a month or so ago? Yeah, I wouldn’t bet against that proposition becoming appealing to them real quick if this nosedive in popularity and relevance continues into next year.

Eva Longoria Proves Its Time to Separate Politics & Entertainment

https://www.ccn.com/eva-longoria-is-getting-dragged/

  • For some reason, MSNBC interviewed Eva Longoria about the 2020 Presidential Election.
  • In the interview, the former “Desperate Housewives” star claimed that Latina women were the “true” heroes of the election, despite all evidence to the contrary.
  • Twitter pounced on her with ferocity, and I’m here for it.

I have no idea why Ari Melber of MSNBC decided that Eva Longoria — an actress best known for her work on the long-canceled “Desperate Housewives” — was the person that needed to be consulted about President-elect Joe Biden’s win.

But regardless of Melber’s logic, the interview delivered a moment in which the actress was bound to get dragged by her over-processed roots.

With one sentence, she managed to erase the impact that Black women had on the presidential election.

That level of verbal gymnastics is, if nothing else, impressive — albeit for all the wrong reasons.

Naturally, the resultant level of dragging — the blood, filth, bone, and slander — forced her to backtrack in a weak-sauce apology.

But I’m here for every last ounce of it.

That Moment When Eva Longoria Stepped In It, Big Time

Just look at how Eva Longoria credits Latina women for putting President-elect Joe Biden in the video below.

I’m sorry, but where did she get her information?

According to the Americas-Society Council of the Americas (AS/COA), which dedicates its studies to the Hispanic diaspora in the United States, the Caribbean, and Canada, more Latinos — not less — voted for Trump in 2020 than they did in 2016. This is mostly due to the overwhelming Cuban-American support that Trump received.

While it’s true that more Latina women than Latino men voted for Biden, these figures are in stark contrast to the Black vote, which went overwhelmingly in favor of Biden, and which helped deliver the necessary electoral votes to the President-elect in key states.

Indeed, it’s almost universally accepted that Black women, led by such activists as Stacey Abrams — not Latina women, delivered the election to Joe Biden.

So, where does Eva Longoria get her information?

Social Media Pounced

It took almost no time for social media — specifically, Twitter — to jump on Eva Longoria and set the record straight. Many people compared Longoria to Dascha Polanco and Gina Rodriguez, two Latina women who made very prominent racist and anti-Black statements in the past.

Afro-Latinx people are frequently being erased. It’s time to stop doing that, too. | Source: Twitter

And while Eva Longoria subsequently issued a well-scripted apology, it’s far too little and far too late.

As an entertainment writer, I often marvel at how seamlessly the worlds of entertainment and politics collide. It’s a testament to how ingrained pop culture is in our society. However, it’s also time to draw a clear line in the sand. After four years of having a game show host in the White House — and after a ridiculous presidential run by a once-talented rapper — it’s high time we stop thinking that entertainers can run the country.

And until celebrities like Eva Longoria get their anti-Blackness in check, it’s time to stop giving a platform.

George W. Bush Shows Us Why the Right Lost Faith in Trump

https://www.ccn.com/george-w-bush-right-lost-faith-in-trump/

  • Joe Biden has taken a small but critical lead over Donald Trump in the 2020 election.
  • Trump’s waning support from Republicans is showing in the polls.
  • When George W. Bush lost to Barack Obama in 2008, he showed us something that Donald Trump lacks: basic human decency and respect for democracy.

He infringed upon our privacy rights. He declared war on a faulty premise. He allowed torture. He guided us into a devastating recession. And yet, George W. Bush somehow looks like a great man compared to Donald Trump.

As Joe Biden ekes out leads in key battleground states, it’s clear why more and more Republicans have had enough.

And Trump has done nothing but validate their concerns since the vote counting started. Unlike Trump, George W. Bush at least believed in the basic tenets of democracy.

And he at least seems like he might be a decent person.

George W. Bush Gracefully Bows Out

As George W. Bush’s tenure as president sputtered to an end in 2008, there was hope that John McCain would keep the Republican party in power. He failed epically, as Barack Obama snagged more than double the electoral votes.

But check out Bush’s speech after Obama won:

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HcOgwJ9uAMQ?feature=oembed&w=800&h=450]

Did you hear that? He “congratulated” Obama on an “impressive” victory.

He gracefully accepted defeat, and he even attempted to unite the country.

No matter how they cast their ballots, all Americans can be proud of the history that was made yesterday… They showed a watching world the vitality of America’s democracy and the strides we have made to a more perfect union.

He called Obama’s victory an “uplifting” example of the strides we’ve made for civil rights.

And perhaps most importantly, George Bush said:

During this time of transition, I will keep the president-elect fully informed on important decisions.

And then we have John McCain’s concession speech:

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGyykc281so?feature=oembed&w=800&h=600]

Despite boos from the crowd, he said Obama “commands his respect.” He said he recognized the importance of that election and acknowledged “the special significance it has for African-Americans.”

McCain was a war hero, but more importantly, he sounds like a decent man.

And Donald Trump called him a loser.

Donald Trump Goes on a Twitter Rampage

If you’ve never witnessed Donald Trump’s antics on Twitter, then you probably don’t have Twitter. It’s become his digital pacifier. Seemingly every time he’s upset, he takes to the platform to air his grievances. Hopefully, for the sake of the people around him, it calms him down.

But as Joe Biden moves closer to what appears to be a victory, Trump has gone on a rant for the ages. Despite constantly decrying ‘fake news,’ many of his tweets have been flagged by Twitter for having misleading information.

Check out this one where he tries to declare a win:

You know it’s bad when Ben Shapiro is the adult in the room:

Ben shapiroBen shapiro
Ouch. | Source: Twitter

Trump has repeatedly referenced his upcoming ‘legal proceedings’ that will ‘ensure his victory’:

Donald Trump Donald Trump
Trump keeps going. | Source: Twitter

He does it again, this time forgetting that he encouraged his voters away from mail-in voting:

Donald TrumpDonald Trump
Maybe it’s because Democrats have a healthy fear of the coronavirus? | Source: Twitter

It’s gotten to the point where some prominent Republicans are calling this situation ‘insane.’

What Happens If  Joe Biden Wins, Legally?

Just for fun, let’s assume Trump takes this all to court, and the result is that Joe Biden legally wins the election. It seems pretty clear that Trump is not ready to concede anything gracefully.

To him, winning is more important than the integrity of the country. Good luck hearing him congratulate Joe Biden or offering him help for the sake of America.

Many Republicans have taken notice of Trump’s irresponsibility with our country. That’s why states like Arizona have suddenly flipped blue.

Because even though the two sides may disagree, no one denies that the Right loves their country. And anyone with eyes and ears can see that Donald Trump only cares about himself.

Thank God Donald Trump Lost, The World is Relieved

https://www.ccn.com/thank-god-donald-trump-lost-the-world-is-relieved/

There’s much you can say about Donald Trump. As an alien, I just briefly lived in Seattle as an exchange student in 2007; I am not an American. My country looks at the USA as our closest ally. We love American culture, we listen to American music, watch American movies and series, and enjoy American food. We are more than normal interested in what’s going on in the USA, and we get daily news updates from America.

We have awarded multiple American Presidents the Nobel Peace Prize, lastly Barack Obama. We have a strong democracy with multiple political parties that must work in tandem to get things done. We have a strong social state but a free market. We got universal health care coverage, free higher education, and what we see as a just and objective free press.

America has been our beacon of light. We admire the US. When asked, we join the US in global wars – even if we don’t always agree as a nation. We join the US in sanctioning countries, companies, and persons.

In the last four years under Donald Trump, our trust in the USA has weathered away slowly. All the lies, all the hate rhetoric, divide the American nation and the worldwide community. All the negativity that Donald Trump has poured over its closest allies and heads of states. The US’s withdrawal from the Paris Agreement, the World Health Organization, and the threat of pulling the USA out of NATO.

While many Americans might not care about other countries, other countries do exist. Other countries do not forget. Some countries might even not forgive.

The power the United States had over its allies and enemies during the past decades is now at a minimal low thanks to Donald Trump. Nations in the European Union have, in multiple cases, disagreed with the US on multiple issues the past four years. Most noticeable with the sanctions over Iran and the nuclear deal initiated by Barack Obama. It has become more common to disagree with the US direction than to agree with it under Donald Trump’s presidency. And now I’m talking about the US’ closest allies, not its enemies.

That’s why I am so relieved the Donald Trump era is over for this time. Even as a Norwegian, I have been stressed out by the many insane tweets and comments made by Donald Trump. And that by itself is absurd.

My children were born under the Trump regime, and now they can grow up and develop under Biden’s – and hopefully more understanding and uniting presidents in the coming years. No matter if it is a Democrat or Republican.

Norway has cooperated greatly with Democratic and Republican presidents, like Barack Obama, George W. Bush, and Bill Clinton. We want America to succeed. We depend on America to succeed. Instead of fighting domestically, we need to look at the world problems facing humanity. Our future depends on it.

America must heal. America must find back to constructive discussions. America must eliminate all the fake news and conspiracies that have exploded during Trump’s time at the Oval Office. Trust the major news sources in the US and abroad, don’t engage in the news you find on social media.

The World wishes you all the prosper you can get America.
